Biggest update to date! The smol Portfolio Tracker has been rebuilt from the ground up while maintaining backwards compatibility - just paste your trades and your snapshots in and you'll be able to pick up right where you left off!
The Trade Log is finally made up of a single table: A bug in Numbers had forced us to use two tables in order to make the Trade Log sortable. After some back and forth with the veteran experts of Numbers's community forums, we found a work-around that eliminates the issue! This fix makes it a lot easier to add new rows and to move the Trade Log around on in your Accounts.
Two new columns added to the Trade Log: You now have two additional columns in the P&L section. The first (% P&L VS Current Price) tells you in % terms how much higher or lower the current price is vis a vis the price transacted at (for each row / transaction). If the row registers a SELL event, the calculation is inverted, so that if the currenrt price is higher than the price you sold at, you will see a negative % P&L. The second column ($ P&L VS Current Price) uses that percentage and multiplies it by the $amount transacted, letting you know in $ terms how much you may have gained or lost. N.B: These columns are purely for informational use and do not affect in any way the calculation of your account's P&L.
A new and improved Holdings header with useful stats: Top gainer, top loser, number of trades taken in the account, as well as the daily percentage change in total value of your account.
Clickable asset names : You can now click on assets' names in your Holdings, Portfolio Breakdown, Watchlists, etc. Doing so will bring you to the asset's page on Yahoo Finance where you can see live advanced charts (line, candles, bars), relevant news, and much more. This works for all supported assets, and respect your selections in special assignations if you have made any.
New widgets on your Dashboard : You have new ways to visualize your P&L. We think these will be very useful! Here's an example from the included Demo Portfolio :
Improved secondary currency picker and added support for new currencies: smol compute now supports over 30 secondary currencies. When you select a secondary currency, the current exchange rate is now displayed next to your selection.
A new tab for your Watchlists : You can now create watchlists simply by entering a ticker you want to track. Select Crypto or Stocks for each watchlist, then enter some tickers. The watchlists will immediately populate with relevant information. Duplicate the blocks to create as many watchlists as you want. See the included Demo Portfolio to get familiarized with this new section.
2 New themes (deprecation of the older themes) : We realized that having only 2 themes would allow us to spend less time updating themes and more time making our products better. So we will be deprecating the themes of the previous versions. To make the change easier, we created 2 new color themes which we think are the slickest we've ever made! One neat feature new to these themes are handy discreet links underneath each blocks that will lead you directly to the relevant part of the user guide.
There are countless small over changes. As we said, we really have rebuilt the Portfolio Manager from the ground up. If you find any issue with the update, please do not hesitate to reach out!
Version 3 brings some smol changes and some big quality of life improvements:
Simplified P&L Tracking : Following user feedback, the way the P&L for the accounts is calculated has been rethought in order to eliminate the need to manually enter deposits and withdrawals in your accounts and keep track of the amount of USD you hold. Both the "Cash Balance" and the "Cost of Account" sections are now gone. Instead, the tracker will automatically keep track of your accounts' costs, while cash won't be included in the calculation. We think this makes a lot more sense for most users and hope the it will save you some time and headaches!
Much improved ticker-to-asset matching : The Tracker already automatically matched tickers to assets for all assets listed on Yahoo Finance and CoinMarketCap, however, Yahoo sometimes uses irregular asset codes which could lead to issues. For example, the asset code for Uniswap is "UNI7083" rather than simply "UNI". We have manually encoded a fix that will automatically solve this for the top 500 crypto assets listed on CoinMarketCap / Yahoo. So you can now simply enter "UNI" in your Trade Log and the Tracker will know to match this ticker to the Uniswap asset (and provide you with accurate price data for it).
New way to make custom ticker-to-asset matches : In case you are trading exotic microcap assets with irregular asset codes, you can now quickly specify which asset should be matched to a ticker in the new "Special Assignations" widget situated in the sidebar (to the right). You'll see "UNI" already listed as an example. You can find out how this widget works here.
Updated automated account Holdings and Portfolio Breakdown tables: Both of these tables will now appear "rowless" until you begin entering trades in the Trade Log of one of your accounts. A new row will be automatically added for each new asset you trade in one of your accounts. This allows us to better automate these tables without cluttering the layout.
Many smaller improvements have been made throughout the Tracker, such as a couple of new metrics added to the Holdings table and improved support for secondary currencies.
Change of name: smol compute has a new product! It consists of a single-account portfolio tracker. This product is inheriting the name "smol Portfolio Tracker", because it is, well, smoller than it's big brother. The multi-account tracker is now called the smol Portfolio Manager! The name change does not affect your capacity to receive updates for the tracker you purchased. You can visit the new smol Portfolio Tracker here.
New theme! Say hello to the Bloomberg Terminal color theme.
The main currency now defaults to USD. If your OS's region is set to USA you you should only see the $ symbol. For all other regions, you may see "US$".
The Portfolio Breakdown now self-populates, pulling data automatically from all your accounts.
You can now select a secondary currency from a pop-up menu in the top right corner of Portfolio Summary on the Dashboard. Your Portfolio's Current Value, Lifetime Cost, and P&L will then be displayed in that currency (in addition to their USD values). This will also activate the use of the secondary currency in the Trade Log for the Realized P&L.
Version 2.0 sees a much improved Account page.
You can now easily specify each account's type simply by selecting "Crypto" or "Stocks" in the pop-up menu in the cell right next to the account name (C1) at the top of the sheet.
The Trade Log has been entirely rebuilt. (It of course retains our unified formatting so you can simply copy and paste from one version to the other without any issue).
You can now sort your trades by header columns. The main utility of this is the ability to add trades to the Trade Log and not have to worry about entering them in chronological order. You can simply add trades to the bottom of the list, then sort the list by date, and everything will then get computed correctly. A good use case might be if you are using more than one exchange to trade Bitcoin, but want still want all these trades computed as one (say, for tax purposes). You want to know your P&L and cost basis for Bitcoin across all Exchanges, not just on one exchange. Simply enter all your trades in the account's Trade Log and then sort by date and your costs basis and P&L will be correctly computed across all exchanges, wallets, etc. (Use the Smol Formatter if you want to bulk import trades).
You now have the ability to enter FEES as events in the Trade Log. In addition to "BUY" and "SELL", the Side column now offers you a third option, "FEES". This has a different use case than the Fees column of the Trade Log, though it accomplishes the same thing, i.e., adding fees to the cost basis of a particular asset. So why use it? In crypto, there are often network fees to pay even when we are not buying or selling anything. Each time we interact with the blockchain, we must pay a gas fee. These fees impact your final P&L. The FEES option allows you to log these fees and add them to the cost basis of the asset concerned in the blockchain interaction.
